Teaching physics is a cornerstone of a life-long enterprise in studying physics. My enthusiasm for this enterprise is universality. Once one has mastered a concept in a certain context it provides insight in a multitude of other settings. Whenever I teach, the feedback and questions of students make me look at a topic from new perspectives which provides me with a deeper understanding.
My pet project is the student seminar
"Life-Science": Physics taken from real life
- “Locomotion and Swarms” in our present seminar “Physical Problems in Biology”
- “Sound Generation and Interference” in the seminar “Physics of Music”
- “Interdiffusion and Internal Waves in Late Macchiato” in the “Physics of Mixed Drinks”
In the course of time the audience in this seminar has grown to more than 30 students. Many attend the course in spite of the fact that they will not earn credits for the course. After all, every term at most 20 students can give a talk...
